Most Popular Topics:

“The Bible and Other Faiths”

The bible was not written with the purpose of telling Christians how they should relate to other religious faith traditions. However, there are many stories and teachings within the bible that provide clear guidance for Christian believers.  (This is an intrafaith speech, written specifically for Christians)

“Living in Respectful Presence”

It is evident that we will not find reconciliation between the religions of our world, or for that matter between members of our own families until we learn to “live in respectful presence of each other”.  (This is an interfaith speech that calls for us to reach beyond tolerance to a life of respect.)

“My Pilgrimage to India”

Rev. Sam was invited by members of a Sikh community to speak at a conference in New Delhi, India, on ‘reconciliation’.  His speech opened the door to some most unexpected experiences, including leading a Muslim parade of over 5,000 people down the streets of Hyderabad, India, accompanied by a Jewish Rabbi, and Hindu scholar.

“Haiti in Crisis”

Haiti is in crisis, but they have “a in” on what it takes to be “community”.  Rev. Sam has visited Haiti for 23 times. There is a reason he calls Haiti his second home.  We can learn so much from the poorest people in the Western Hemisphere, particularly when it comes to the meaning of community.

“Beyond our Differences”

When Rev. Sam was in Turkey he visited the city of Konya, where the shrine of the 13th century Persian Sufi poet Rumi is located.  Carved on the wall of one of the rooms was the following lines: “Beyond our differences there is a field, I will meet you there.”

“The Golden Rule”

The Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” is found within the sacred texts of all religions.  Surprisingly it is also practiced by many from other faiths.  Their stories just do not reach the news – they are our hope!

“Life’s Teachings”

Rev. Sam often quotes his father as saying to him,“You do not know where you are going unless you know where you have come from.”  Stories of our past and those of our ancestors have a profound effect on us.  They can also teach us lessons that help us face the “tomorrows” of life.
