The Children of Haiti Need Your Help!
The Lambert Community School in Crisis
Right now the Lambert school’s number one concern is whether children of their community will be able to attend school and receive a meal each day. We have observed over the years that Haitian parents will sacrifice nearly everything to send their children to school, but this year many families will be forced to keep some or all of their children home due to skyrocketing inflation.
One significant cause for the changing economy is the collapse of the Venezuela government. Over the past years Venezuela has subsidized the fuel cost they sold to Haiti. With the recent collapse of Venezuela’s government there has been a 40% hike in fuel costs as well as food. The average cost of a can of rice last year was 35 Gourdes. Today, that same can is 60 Gourdes. Nearly doubled in one year. 1.8 million people in Haiti are in a food crisis.
